Beethoven, Leonore Overture No. 3

Margaret Bonds, Montgomery Variations (1965)

Schumann, Symphony No. 3

The Du Bois Orchestra presents a very special concert, featuring a rare performance of the Montgomery Variations by Margaret Bonds, a recently rediscovered score that had been lost for decades, a deeply moving score composed at the height of the Civil Rights Movement. The Du Bois Orchestra is thrilled to present one of the great, rarely heard voices of 20th century American music, a prolific composer, and the first African American woman to perform as a soloist with the Chicago Symphony. Also on the program are Beethoven's Leonore Overture No. 3 and Schumann's Symphony No. 3, two of the most life-affirming and uplifting works in the symphonic repertoire.
