End of the Year Appeal

Since 2015, the Du Bois Orchestra has helped reshape the landscape of inclusivity in classical music. Long before Florence Price and Joseph Bologne were regularly heard alongside canon, Du Bois Orchestra performed these works, and will continue to do so, with your help. In our journey of transitioning from a community ensemble to a professional orchestra, we are immensely grateful to the many individuals and organizations that given to us in more ways than one. There is much to celebrate, as we are now hearing a more diverse classical canon than we ever have in our field. Our journey however, does not end here. Du Bois is committed not only to inclusivity, but also to excellence in that inclusivity.

Becoming a full professional ensemble, and overcoming all of the financial hurdles thereof, can only happen with YOUR continued generosity.

Statement from the Executive Director

Our mission is to elevate the voices of historically marginalized composers alongside the classical canon. This past year, we have been working tirelessly to ensure exponential growth in the Du Bois Orchestra. We have introduced musician stipends for the first time in the organization’s history, reorganized our administrative infrastructure and brand, and fostered an artistic partnership with the Longy School of Music of Bard College. All of this we did with the help of a totally volunteer administrative team comprised of current and former orchestra members.

This growth can not continue without your help. As we develop, individual contributions will be key to help us continue creating positive change in the world of classical music. It is a part of our mission to keep our concerts free of charge to ensure accessibility to high quality classical music regardless of income. We aim to continue to provide real world performance and administrative experience to the next generation of musicians through our relationship with Longy, and to further nurture diversity and inclusion in the arts. If you support our goals then please contribute to our GoFundMe campaign, linked below. If we meet our goal of $10,000, that will support us in our mission through the rest of the year. Thank you so much for your patronage, and enjoy the music!
